Windows includes an Enhance pointer precision setting that changes pointer movement based partly on how the mouse is moved. If you prefer more consistent raw-feeling pointer movement, you can turn that option off.
How to Turn Off Enhance Pointer Precision in Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Mouse.
- Look for Enhance pointer precision and turn it off if the option is available directly on your current Windows 11 version.
Use the Classic Mouse Properties Window
If your Windows 11 build does not expose the toggle directly on the Mouse Settings page, use the classic controls:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Select Additional mouse settings under Related settings.
- Open the Pointer Options tab.
- Clear the Enhance pointer precision checkbox.
- Select Apply, then OK.
Should You Turn It Off?
There is no universally correct setting. Some people prefer pointer acceleration for general desktop use, while others prefer it disabled for consistent mouse movement. Changing the setting does not inherently make the computer faster or guarantee better gaming performance.
Mouse Software Can Have Its Own Settings
Gaming mice and other advanced pointing devices can include manufacturer software with separate sensitivity, DPI, acceleration, or profile controls. If pointer movement still feels different after changing the Windows setting, check the mouse manufacturer’s software as well.
