How to Remove Copilot from Windows 11

On current Windows 11 PCs, Microsoft Copilot is distributed as an app and Microsoft provides a normal uninstall option. You can remove the Copilot app from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. This removes the Windows Copilot app; it does not remove every Copilot feature that may exist inside Microsoft Edge, Microsoft 365, or other Microsoft services.

How to Uninstall the Copilot App in Windows 11

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Select Installed apps.
  4. Find Copilot.
  5. Select the More options button next to Copilot.
  6. Select Uninstall.
  7. Confirm the removal if Windows asks you to do so.

Microsoft currently documents this as the supported way to remove the Copilot app from Windows 11.

What If You Only Want Copilot Off the Taskbar?

Removing a shortcut or pinned icon is different from uninstalling the app. If you only want a cleaner taskbar, unpin Copilot instead of removing the application. That leaves Copilot installed so you can still open it from Start or search.

What Does Uninstalling Copilot Remove?

This procedure removes the standalone Copilot app installed in Windows. Copilot-related features can also exist in Microsoft 365 applications, Microsoft Edge, and web services. Uninstalling the Windows app should therefore not be described as removing Copilot from your Microsoft account or from every Microsoft product.

What About a Work or School PC?

Organization-managed computers can have Copilot deployed or controlled by an administrator. Microsoft provides separate management methods for IT administrators. If the Uninstall option is unavailable or Copilot returns because of an organization policy, contact your IT administrator rather than attempting to bypass the policy.

Can You Install Copilot Again?

Yes. Microsoft says the Copilot app can be obtained from the Microsoft Store if it is not installed on your Windows PC. This makes the normal uninstall method preferable to scripts that remove unrelated Windows packages.

Summary

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Copilot, open its More options menu, and select Uninstall. Remember that this removes the Windows Copilot app, not every Copilot feature in other Microsoft products.
