How to Forget a Wi-Fi Network in Windows 10

Forgetting a Wi-Fi network in Windows 10 removes its saved connection profile from that PC. This is useful when the saved password or network settings have changed, or when you no longer want the computer to reconnect automatically. You will normally need the Wi-Fi password again if you reconnect later.

How to Forget a Wi-Fi Network in Windows 10

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Network & Internet.
  3. Select Wi-Fi.
  4. Select Manage known networks.
  5. Select the network you want Windows to remove.
  6. Select Forget.

How to Reconnect After Forgetting the Network

  1. Select the network icon in the taskbar.
  2. Select the Wi-Fi network.
  3. Choose Connect.
  4. Enter the current network security key when prompted.

Forgetting a network does not change the router’s Wi-Fi password. It only removes the saved profile from this Windows PC.

Forget a Network vs. Network Reset

Use Forget when one saved Wi-Fi network is the problem. Windows’ broader Network reset feature removes and reinstalls network adapters and resets additional networking configuration, so it is much more disruptive and should not be the first step for a single incorrect Wi-Fi profile.

Why Does the Network Come Back?

The wireless network will still appear in the list of nearby networks when its router is broadcasting. Forgetting it removes the saved connection information; it does not hide the network or turn off the router.

Windows 10 Support Status

Microsoft ended ordinary Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. If the computer supports Windows 11, upgrading to a supported Windows version is the better long-term approach for security and servicing.

Summary

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select the saved network, and choose Forget. If you connect again later, be prepared to enter the current Wi-Fi password.
