You can check the Windows 11 edition, version, and OS build from the About page in Settings. The winver command provides a second quick way to see the installed Windows version and build.
Check the Windows 11 Version in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Scroll to Windows specifications.
- Look for Edition, Version, and OS build.
Check the Version with Winver
- Press Windows + R.
- Type winver.
- Press Enter.
- Read the Windows version and OS build shown in the dialog.
Edition, Version, and OS Build Are Different
The edition identifies the Windows product, such as Home or Pro. The version identifies a Windows release, while the OS build is a more specific build number that changes as Windows is serviced and updated.
Because Microsoft continues to release and service Windows 11 versions, it is better to check the value shown on your PC than to assume a particular version number from the age of the computer.
Why Check the Windows Version?
