iPhone 5 and iPad 2 – How These Giants Stack Up

Well, it looks like the much-awaited iPad 2 is finally here amidst much fanfare. Some managed to pull all-nighters and stand in line for days just to be amongst the first few to grab the coveted successor to Apple’s most famous and only tablet to date. The rest, however, like this guy managed to buy a spot in the queue from student who endured 40 over hours of cold rain, near-hunger and lack of sleep – all for a whopping $900! This amount of cash is indeed enough for Amanda Foote to buy a new Apple iPad but it seems that she is more eager to spend the money on Lady Gaga tickets instead…
iPad 2 mania aside, Apple fans are now looking forward to the release of the new iPhone 5 which many have speculated will arrive around September this year. So let’s ask ourselves – How will the iPhone 5 and iPad 2 stack up against each other? Or more specifically, will you buy an iPhone 5 now that you have an uber cool iPad 2?

Let’s look at some iPad 2 features and compare them against known iPhone 5 features:

-          Faster processor: The iPad 2 boasts of a new processing chip called the A5, something that may undergo improvements and be at the core of the new iPhone 5. That, or it may be an entirely new dual core processor altogether…

-          Thinner tablet: The iPad 2 is said to be thinner than an iPhone 4 device but just how thin will the upcoming iPhone 5 be? More importantly, do you need a wafer thin phone that will feel as if it has the potential to crack any time between your fingers?

-          More colors: The iPad 2 finally came out with a white variation, much to the joy of most Apple fans. As for the iPhone 5 however, there is a lack of concrete confirmation as to whether the device will be released in both black and white color variations. Some speculators even went as far as to claim that Apple may bring back the rainbow color variations of their latest gadgets ala Mac computers back in the 1990’s where a plethora of red, green, blue and other Mac computers were launched simultaneously.

So what’s your take on the new iPad 2 vs the upcoming iPhone 5? Will you purchase an iPhone 5 if an iPad 2 or even an iPhone 4 is good enough?

Is the iPhone 4′s Popularity Waning with the Upcoming Release of iPhone 5?

It seems that everywhere we turn, the world is holding its breath for the upcoming Apple iPhone 5. That wait seemed to have abated with the recent launch of the Apple iPad 2 in March 2011, when both die-hard and new fans got their hands on the new tablet. The world ooh-ed and aah-ed over the brand spanking new white surface, and many have come to wonder if Apple will indeed release a white iPhone like they promised prior to the release of the iPhone 4. However, speculations are rife saying that there will be a new white iPhone released this spring 2011. Question is, is it a white iPhone 4 or a white iPhone 5? We are putting our money on the white iPhone 5 but meanwhile let’s ask ourselves: is the popularity for the iPhone 4 waning with the upcoming release of iPhone 5?

Among new features rumored to make an appearance when the iPhone 5 is released come September 2011 (hopefully) includes:

  • Faster processor
  • Bigger screen
  • Thinner device
  • Zero antenna issue
  • More color variety

So is it worth your while to wait for the iPhone 5, or should you rush out and no longer delay your purchase of an iPhone 4? The faster A5 processing chip that has made its debut in the iPad 2 will undoubtedly be at the core of the iPhone 5. If speed is a deciding factor, then by all means wait for the iPhone 5 to be released. Otherwise you could do without the bigger screen and thinner device features. On the other hand, the iPhone 5 may be free of antenna issues prevalent in the iPhone 4 gadget. As for colors, it seems that Apple would have finally found a solution to the non-appearance of the white iPhone. Many, including an PCMag analyst, speculated that the white iPhone 4 was not released earlier due to the white back panel reflecting too much light from the LED flash. This led to overexposure in image, and could result to massive defects.

However, with the imminent release of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4 may yet see a price decrease, making it a very attractive device to own now.

Major Improvements We’d Love to See in an iPhone 5

It’s now the first quarter of the year 2011 and while most of us are already content with our new toy, namely the Apple iPad 2, a lot of Apple fans are still trawling the Internet in search of rumors and news that will help shed light as to when the iPhone 5 will be out, and what are the new features in store for them. And while concrete confirmations have yet to surface, fans will need to put up with numerous rumors and speculations popping up all over the web daily. We’ve asked friends and readers what are the major improvements they would love to see in the upcoming iPhone 5. Here they are!

1.       More capacity – Many fans are puzzled as to why the current iPhone storage has not yet reached the 64GB capacity. This is made even more shocking because there is an existing iPod Touch 64GB in the market for years now, and there is nary an iPhone with capacity of more than 32GB in sight. Pretty embarrassing considering that the iPhone is Apple’s signature product, is it not?

2.       ZERO antenna issue – iPhone 4 owners were perplexed as to why a simple antenna would cause much issue when the device was released last year. The question still remains: is there an issue, or is there not? If there is indeed an existing problem, Apple is likely to fix it when the new iPhone 5 arrives sometime this year. iPhone 4 owners no longer need to put up with the burning question of “Do you suffer from iPhone 4 antenna issues?” when they migrate to the new iPhone 5.

3.       Color varieties – Yes, yes we know there is a white iPhone coming up in our horizons but is it the iPhone 5? While the rest of the world eagerly awaits the coveted white iPhone to match their white iPad 2, we think that what’s cooler would be to have Apple release the iPhone 5 in a plethora of colors ala the iPod Nano. icon smile Major Improvements We’d Love to See in an iPhone 5 This would be awesome and would really boost sales through the roof as people may clamour to own a complete set of colors… or just purchase multiple iPhone covers or skins.

Will the iPhone 5 Be Worth Your Hard-earned Cash?

The Internet is rife with speculations and rumors surrounding the upcoming release of the iPhone 5, slated to be launched this coming spring, anytime between June and September. With Apple fans saving up their money for the release, there are those who are doubtful as to whether they should fork out extra cash for it, especially since they are new owners of the iPhone 4. Some even splurged on a new iPad 2 with the recent launch, but let us assure you that the iPhone 5 and the iPad 2 are in a different class altogether. So, will the new iPhone 5 be worth your hard-earned cash? Let’s take a look.

Reasons why the iPhone 5 will be worth your money:

1.       Bigger screen – While there has been no confirmation yet pertaining to the much talked about screen size, a lot of images have been circulating the Internet and these images made us think that the legendary 4-inch screen may be more fact than fiction! A thinner bezel may also be featured in the new device, making the iPhone 5 more sleek than ever, and certainly more desirable the existing iPhone 4 perhaps?

2.       Online payment-ready – The iPhone 5 will definitely have some sort of e-Wallet application for mobile payments. While experts have quashed rumors that the device will come with Near Field Communication, Apple is expected to put in place a similar technology that will enable mobile payments. In other words, iPhone 5 owners will find it easier and more convenient to perform mobile payments as long as they have an iTunes account. Pretty nifty, we think!

3.       Top notch affordability – To counter the slew of cheap Android smart phones, Apple has expressed interest to produce a cheaper version of its iPhone, and all eyes are on the iPhone 5 price tag as many expect it to cost cheaper than the initial iPhone 4 price during its release last year.
